Kids Clothing in the Early 19th Century
In the early year of 19th century, comfort was given with least consideration in kids clothing because outside look was the most important before. The lack of freedom to move is what they considered as the training in making the children’s bodies straight.
Now, let us take a look at the early 19th century kids clothing according to 3 different categories.
· Babies- The mother of a baby is responsible in preventing her baby from moving so much. Thus, their clothing before allowed a movement that is no more than a turn of head and not even that sometimes (according to Claire Rose, costume historian).
· Girls- Kids clothing of the girls is just the same with their mother, for they are just mimicking the outfit of their mother. They wear narrow skirts and low necklines and short sleeveless.
· Boys- Young boys wore dresses until they reach the age of 4-6. After that, they wore long pants and other garments which make them look like a miniature of man.
